book club: coming for oprah’s brand in 2022

So. Book club.

I find it really difficult in the age of instagram scrolling and tiny powerful computers that our whole lives are contained in to stay focused and inspired while reading. In an effort to prohibit my brain from atrophying further than it has, and to be able to justify new book purchases when I have lovely, unread books on my shelf, I’m creating a little home here for my own personal book club.

I’ve kept a blog off and on for over 10 years, and most people are surprised when I admit that. Having this website be the little nest for my cv and portfolio, and also for freelance work, hopefully there will be humans visiting here. So in an effort to avoid public shaming and to stay reading, but also to share a little bit more of me, here it is.

This was partially inspired by my recent favourite podcast You’re Wrong About and their summer book club series where they deep dive into one of the host’s recent read, and discuss. And laugh about it, and dissect it with regards to pop culture, society, media, etc.

Originally I wanted to read a book per week. Cause I really do love to read! Then that turned into two weeks. Finally we have settled on the more doable one book per month (we’re being optimistic yet realistic in 2022). I have a few books to finish up, since I still haven’t kicked the “reading five books at a time” habit. And it’ll be like little wins for me to finish those up and write a bit about them here. As I move forward with this project, the book club of one will consist of mostly just my major learnings, thoughts, feelings, philosophies, wonderings, wanderings, quandaries, questions, and anything else that came up while reading.

Happy reading!

Love,
Your friendly neighbourhood Oprah
